Power of freedom - the power to think

I have seen days in the internet, where I went to a BBS and I was amazed by some stuff I found. I went to Usenet and got informed. Okay, these days are gone: nowadays we use RSS, grab some news from Blogs, Institutions, magazines, newspapers or whatever. Bright days you could say. And if you didn't knew some fact, a little research through Altavista, Lycos, or since some years Google brought some stuff on the screen. Interesting: an encyclopedia just at hand; just there. Funny. All people have access to all knowledge. And we called that the freedom of the digital age where information are free and we have to power to think freely.

The power to really think?

There's a problem: it turns out that for example in China people are not allowed to think. That's really sad, but it's like it is. People's minds are bound to other ideas, which aren't compatible to "thinking". Nevertheless many western experts saw an "Opening process" in China's "democracy", since the Tibet conflict and the Olympic Games my personal hope faded and I doubted that.
And my prognosis for the upcoming year is somehow strange: I say western civilizations will not make China open itself. They will become like that: censored, bounded, controlled. Now you may think I'm one of these strange guys, and criticism like that is just an echo of my own inabilities. Well then: My only inability is, that I believed it would take a longer time: but gosh, it's there: "The great british firewall" made its first move. And the world stands still, accepting because it's because of child pornography. - Really? Oh my god. It's child porn? That nasty stuff that was common around the middle ages, but we managed to overcome that? But why did we manage this step? Because we began to think?
There's no child porn. But ignorance. The same ignorance that kept child porn existing for more than 100 years.

Thinking means changing. But there's this everlasting doubt that gnaws at one's heart. If I point this out... "what will happen?". Seriously my grandfather never managed to overcome the Nazi's lies, because he saw many of his friends die in war for these ideas. The only reason why I knew he was wrong was education. I was able to think - when his mind was hindered. The power to really think means to be capable of resisting against such easy ideas like fascism, hate, intolerance, brutality, warmongering, or even child porn. Without the latter these dark ideas are in all of us. Because we have been apes and we still are - somewhere in this thing called brain.

No resistance? "Mind porn!"

Be sure to resist. It's a nasty thing to be blamed to do "child porn". You may lose your job even if it's wrong - and you will never get another one. Media managed to make the people eat this argument, even if executive officers would start killing random people. It's for child porn. Sure? I'm not.

And if you ask me: this is just another act of intolerance and stupidity, similar to child porn: mind porn.
